Old Cape Cod Firehouses page3
Cape Cod's earliest firehouse dates back to the early 1800s. Since then, quite a number
of stations have been built, added to, renovated, closed, sold, torn down, or otherwise retired
from service. This features takes a look back at some of these firehouses and there after life.Harwich
Harwich Fire Station built c.1928. This station on Bank Street served as Harwich Headquarters
from the inception of HFD until the new headquarters on Sisson Road was built in 1996.
It is presently used by the Harbor Master. Photo c.2003.
Harwich Fire Station built c. 1928. 203 Bank Street. The station was added onto several
times over the years. Addition of the roll up metal doors on the front did not do much
for the looks of the building, but did the job. Photo c. 1990s.
Harwich Headquarters. Photo c.1977. Engine 4 was the 1976
Mack CF600 and Engine 3 was a 1953 American LaFrance.
Harwich Fire Station built c. 1928. This photo taken in early 1970s
shows much of the Harwich apparatus during an open house or
parade. Two van style ambulances c.1973, a 1964 Maxim pumper,
the 1970 Mack / Thibault Ladder, and the 1940 Buffalo Engine 4.
Harwich Fire Station built c.1928. One of the additions to the Bank Street
station was off the rear. This c. 1960s photo shows an ambulance, the Duck
boat, and a Boston Whaler.

ambulance, 1950 Ford / Robinson 1500 gallon brush breaker, 1930s Ford
pumper, 1941 Buffalo pumper, 1949 Ford Rescue Truck, 1953 American
LaFrance pumper, 1948 Ford / Farrar city service ladder truck quad, 1950
Ford chief car, and a rescue boat.

Brewster Fire Station built c. 1941 on Route 6A near Route 137. Engine 2 was 1949 Ford,

Dennis
West Dennis Fire Station built c. 1949 on Route 28. 883 Main Street (Route 28) in
West Dennis. This station was replaced and torn down in 1999 when a new station was
built immediately to the right of this one. Photo c. 1990s
West Dennis Fire Station built c. 1949 on Route 28. The Dennis Headquarters
on Route 28 served 50 years. At one point, it was both the police and fire
station.

appears to be in the station.
South Dennis Fire Station built c. 1800s at 293 Main Street, South Dennis. It
became a fire house around 1930.

North Dennis Fire Station built c. 1800s on Old Bass Road. This former school
was also converted into a fire station around 1930. It was approximately where

South Yarmouth Fire Station No.1 built c. 1950s. This addition housed these
3 Maxims in the early 1970s.

Yarmouth Port Fire Station No.2. built c. 1950. Located on Route 6A on the
north side of town. This station was incorporated into the current station during
a major renovation in 1989.

Yarmouth Port fire station c. 1800s. The first fire station in Yarmouth Port
was in this old school house on Route 6A about where the present fire station
is located today. This station was occupied soon after the town bought its first
apparatus in 1931. This photo was taken c. 1930s.
